Honestly? We designed this training to keep ourselves entertained. Turns out officers are actually learning from it.

Our Story

Annually mandated law enforcement training is broken. Every year, officers click through PowerPoints just to check required boxes, staring at slides that haven’t been updated in years, taught by people who clearly don’t want to be there. Nobody engages — but because it technically checks the box, officers wouldn’t receive additional training on those topics for that year. The standard has become: survive the boredom, get your certificate, move on.

We’re not perfect, but we try to keep things informative and entertaining. There’s a reason we can all quote Tombstone but not caselaw. We retain more when it’s entertaining to us.

MOYARS was built on a simple premise: if officers actually watch the training, they might actually learn something. So we brought in real subject matter experts — people who’ve actually done the job. We charge $25 per officer because good training shouldn’t require quotes that come with sales pitches… it’s also about as difficult of math as we’d trust ourselves with.

BJ Moyars

BJ Moyars

Founder & Director of Training

BJ is an active law enforcement officer and department administrator who has spent over a decade building training that officers don’t dread. He’s a state-certified Master Instructor, DRE Instructor, Firearms Instructor, EVO Instructor, and SFSTs Instructor. He also serves as a Chinese interpreter for agencies — because apparently one career wasn’t enough.

He founded MOYARS after years of sitting through the same recycled training everyone else was sitting through and thinking, “We can do better than this.” Every course in the catalog is written, produced, and directed by BJ using professional cinema-grade equipment.

All humor in the training that isn’t funny is his fault.

Sooyeon Shin

Sooyeon “Soo” Shin, CPA

Co-Founder & Director of Operations

Soo runs the business side of MOYARS — sales, billing, operations, customer support, and the 5,000+ contact database that keeps the lights on. She’s a CPA (Illinois), Purdue graduate, and the Executive Director of the International Center of West Lafayette.

Soo is a certified police officer who is very active in the anti-human trafficking investigations realm. She also instructs topics such as cultural diversity, human trafficking, CIT, and serves as a Korean interpreter.
